About Kathy Kennedy

Kathy Kennedy is a multi-talented, passionate sound artist; composer, performer, choral conductor and vocal instructor with a formal background in classical singing. Her experimental work addresses issues of the voice and technology. Her large scale sonic installation/performances for over 100 singers and radio, called "sonic choreographies," have been performed internationally including the inauguration of the Vancouver New Public Library and at the Lincoln Center's Out of Doors Series.

Her solo performances include a high level of improvisation over lush soundtracks of painstakingly mixed vocals and other sounds to create an immersive world of different voices. She has worked extensively in the digital domain and is a founder of Studio XX, Montreal’s multimedia, digital arts resource centre for women, serving an international audience and membership. She is active in community art and is the founder of the community choirs, Choeur Maha, Esther and the Ensemble, Higher Ground.

She has taught electroacoustics, sound art and music for dancers at Concordia University and lectures internationally on sound art, listening and the voice.
